County
Johnson County is located in North central Texas on the southwestern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, also referred to as the Metroplex.
Cleburne, the county seat, is fifty-five miles southwest of downtown Dallas and twenty-nine miles south of downtown Fort Worth. Keene is located five miles East of Cleburne on Highway 67, and seven miles west of I-35 at Alvarado.
The average annual precipitation is thirty-three inches. The temperature averages range between 35 degrees in the winter and a summer high of 96 degrees. The growing season averages 233 days.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments has established the 2006 population of Johnson County at 149,016.

A four-lane divided highway connects Cleburne, Joshua, and Burleson to Fort Worth by way of Highway 174 and connects to Interstate Highway 35 in Burleson. Highway 67 is four lanes and connects the county seat to Keene and then on to Dallas to the east. Interstate Highway 35 cuts across the eastern part of Johnson County, connecting Dallas and Fort Worth with the high growth areas to the south. Interstate 35 in located only seven miles east of Keene. Commuter rail service is under discussion as the county continues to grow. Amtrack serves Cleburne today. Manufacturing provides the largest percentage of available jobs and the health care industry second.
