Location

Keene, located 29 miles south of downtown Fort Worth and 50 minutes from DFW airport, is a progressive community on Highway 67. The main route to the airport, Dallas, Fort Worth and Alliance Airport from Johnson County is Interstate 35, which is only seven miles east of Keene.

Population

Keene's population is approximately 5,952, the fourth largest in Johnson County. Cleburne, the county seat, has a population of 29,184 and provides many retail and cultural opportunities.

  • Air
    Cleburne Municipal Airport has a 5,700 foot lighted runway and fuel service. DFW Airport, Love Field and Alliance Airports are all within an hourīs drive fom Keene.
  • Freight
    All major freight carriers service Keene.
  • Rail
    Amtrack provides passenger rail and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway provides freight service. Both are located in Cleburne, five miles West of Keene

Utilities

  • Electric and Gas
    The major supplier of electricity and gas to Keene is TXU. The Keene Industrial Park is served by United Cooperative Services. With deregulation there are now other providers of power. See powertochoose.org for more information.
  • Water
    Keene's source of water is nine wells. Beginning in 2006, one million gallons of water per day is available from the Brazos Water District from their Lake Granbury Plant.
  • Sewer
    The sewer treatment plant is an aerated lagoon with stabilization ponds.
  • Telephone and Internet
    AT&T is the major provider of telephone lines and service, however with deregulation there are several other providers of service. High-speed Internet is available in Keene proper through AT&T.

Communication

Newspapers serving Keene include the weekly Keene Star. Daily papers include the Cleburne Times Review and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Two radio stations operate in the county. Southwestern Adventist University in Keene operates 88.3 KJCR and KCLE 1120AM is located in Cleburne. Dozens of radio stations and all major television networks have operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Education

Southwestern Adventist University located in Keene and Hill College located in Cleburne provide excellent local education beyond our public and private schools.

Freeport Exemptions

All properties have both City and School District Freeport exemptions in place.

Fire Protection

The City of Keene Fire Department has a 100-foot ladder truck with a 1500 gallon per minute pump capability. The Fire Department has two more pumper engines with a 1500 gallon per minute capability.
